Llangwm Local History Society was founded in June 2002 and currently has upwards of 70 members. Membership is just £5 per annum and includes free refreshments at all our talks. The fee for non-members is £2 per talk including refreshments.

Monthly meetings take the form of evening talks in the village hall or visits to local places of interest, museums, etc. These are generally held around the second Wednesday of each month, but watch for posters and notifications on Llangwm Facebook page (members sign up to receive emails).

In the past few years the History Society has commemorated those Llangwm men who gave their lives in World War One. Services have been held, a major exhibition mounted - we even commissioned a village opera, which went on to win a national award.

Research into all aspects of Llangwm’s past is constantly being done. The cemetery graves have been mapped (details are available through the Pembrokeshire Archive) and the churchyard graves are in the process of being mapped. We also work closely with St Jerome’s Church in their Heritage project discovering the Flemish roots of the village.

Llangwm Local History Society is a member (along with Pembroke and Monkton, Hook, Penally and Coastlands) of the Five Communities group which aims to identify, catalogue and make digitally available each group's respective archive material.

In 2018 the Society published a book, Some Remarkable People of Llangwm and Hook, the last work by local historian, W. Grenville Thomas (for details on how to obtain a copy see below).

Some Remarkable People of Llangwm and Hook

Local historian, teacher and Baptist minister W Grenville Thomas had prepared the manuscript for this, his third book about Llangwm, when he sadly died in May 2002 before it could be published.

The family kept the manuscript safe and in 2018 his daughter Amanda Britt gave Llangwm Local History Society permission to print it.

The book tells the story of the infamous ‘Llangwm Riots’ of 1900 - complete with courtroom drama. There is also a tale of a terrace of houses which changed hands following a bet on the Grand National.

Hook’s long fight for a road to link them with their market town of Haverfordwest is told with sympathy and admiration.

The hey-day of the village choirs is also touched on.
